Hi! I’m Steve, a user experience professional from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
I specialize in complex systems design, service design thinking, and using a mix of qualitative and quantitative research to drive design decisions.
Analytical Background
In a previous career I was an intelligence analyst for the U.S. military and I later earned a Masters degree in Information Science. These experiences allow me to bring some unique data analysis skills to my design work. I have used my technical skills to construct custom data sets for analysis that helped inform user interview planning, research scripts, and during the analysis and synthesis of test findings.
More than Just “Pretty” Pixels
I delight in breaking down misconceptions that UX is about making things “look pretty” and instead work to prove that a good user experience is more than well arranged pixels on a screen. I approach design opportunities methodically and employ mixed research methods to capture the needs of the user from multiple perspectives.
Accessibility Advocate
Above all, I am a passionate advocate for digital accessibility. I strive to introduce accessible design and development requirements into every project and highlight how my teams can always push the envelop towards greater inclusion and respect for all users. To further my understanding of accessibility I stay active in many Meetup groups, attended accessibility conferences, and have earned multiple certifications from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals.
Pro Presenter
I also love communicating and presenting about design. I am a former national champion in speech in debate during my undergraduate years and have extensive public speaking experience with a range of audiences. I bring these skills into my design work as a facilitator and ambassador for design thinking within a large organization.
